Downtown Residence

Traci created a distinctive urban-industrial feel for this downtown San Diego loft overlooking Petco Park.

VISION

The large open space had two bathrooms and kitchen. Traci added visual walls to create a foyer, dining space, bedroom and living space.

Discovering Opportunities
for Accommodation

The client had an abundant amount of area to work with to create several different spaces within their one space, on top of a large amount of natural light.

  • Function: By adding cabinetry, countertop and beverage coolers, we created a small bar that extends from one of the columns near the entrance to the living area.
  • Designated Spaces: Large glass doors from the Glass Door Company were installed around the bedroom that could be opened on either end to provide flexibility in the flow of the space.
  • Natural Aesthetic: The concrete ceilings and exposed pipes reinforce the urban vibe, but they also made electrical lighting an issue. Adding soffits to visually designate living and office space, allowed for recessed lighting. The soffit continues down the wall to integrate the custom media cabinetry.
  • Color: A new stain color on the floors, window casings and kitchen cabinetry, as well as new countertops, completely transformed the look and feel of this downtown loft.

Before and After

The large urban loft needed purpose and flow.

The red tones of the existing existing wood were sanded and restrained to a rich dark brown. In addition, extending the soffit down the wall integrates the custom media center.

We love the concrete ceilings and exposed pipes that enhance the urban loft vibe. The added soffit create a soft visual boundary between the office and living space from the rest of the loft.

Adding a bar near the entrance also created a foyer.

In addition, this space was intended to be a live and work loft. With that in mind, we created a bedroom within the loft using a sliding door and stained glass walls.

The final result

The wide open space in this downtown loft with ballpark views was given purpose. We gave it an inviting and strategic modern feel, while accentuating its original industrial vibe with its exposed ductwork and pipes.
